NORWICH – For years the Norwich Family YMCA has prided itself on the diverse nature of its members, and the fact that they are able to serve members of the community regardless of their ability to pay. However with more and more people benefiting from the Y’s scholarship program, the organization is hoping to get a little help in order to continue providing financial help to all those who need it.

For years, the YMCA has had a scholarship program; however, a few years ago, the YMCA discovered they would no longer be able to absorb the cost of the scholarships themselves, and decided to run an annual support campaign.

“If we can’t give out as many scholarships, then many locals will not be able to use the facilities,” said YMCA Executive Director Jamey Mullen. “The more Y-work that I do here, the more I think that these two programs – the scholarship program and the support campaign – are the best programs that we run. It allows us to tell the YMCA story to everybody and provide access to everyone,” Mullen said.
