Greene 1, Maine-Endwell 0

GREENE – Greene captured its first Section IV division title since the 2003 season defeating two-time division and sectional champion Maine-Endwell Thursday.

It was the second shutout win for Greene this season over the game Spartans, who registered all seven of their shots in the second half to keep the Trojans on their toes. “That was a very good Maine-Endwell team that we beat,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “Our kids had to work hard for this win and it’s a great tuneup for sectionals. We couldn’t have played a tougher opponent.”

The Trojans finished the regular season tied in the loss column with Whitney Point, but gained the edge receiving an extra quality point for an overtime loss to the Golden Eagles.

Greene (14-2) took a 2-0 victory over Maine-Endwell earlier this season, that despite losing the statistical battle in shots and penalty corners. There was no such aberration in the statistics this time around. “The last part of the game went back and forth, but I felt we outplayed them today, especially in the first half,” Carlin said. “Every game from here on in is a pressure game, so we have to learn how to win under pressure and win big games. They did that today.”
