CONKLIN – Only one scenario had Norwich turning defeat into a narrow victory, and the Tornado pulled off the comeback win with a pair of one-two finishes over the final two events to squeeze past the Sabers Friday.

Makenzie Williams and Hayley Chwazik-Gee pared the SV lead to eight points with a top-two finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. To finish off the meet, Rachel Lorenz, Williams, Julia Simcoe, and Savanna Keator were easy winners in the 400-yard freestyle winner. More importantly, though, Sara Loomis, Sam Stockton, Alison Brown, and Brooke Ireland secured the valuable second-place points beating SV’s team by three seconds. “This one was a great victory for the team,” said Norwich coach Amanda Downey. “It took heart and determination from each swimmer to win this meet.”

After taking the opening event, Lorenz and Keator had the lone victories on the NHS ledger until Lorenz began the Tornado comeback with a victory in the 100 backstroke to set the stage for the final Tornado push. “This was just the confidence boost the girls needed to push through the next few weeks,” Downey said.
