Commerce Chenango names new President & CEO

NORWICH – Members of the Board of Directors for Commerce Chenango are pleased to announce the selection of Maureen P. Carpenter as the new President & CEO of the Chamber. Sewain Conklin has been serving as the interim President and CEO since the position became vacant in December.

Carpenter currently serves as the Director of Economic Development for Chenango County. She became the Director in 2004 and has been responsible for the development and implementation of economic development (commercial and industrial) plans, programs and services for Chenango County including monitoring business activities, assisting in efforts to promote retention of current businesses and attracting new businesses to the county. Additionally, she serves on the Chenango County Planning Board, the Airport Steering Committee, the Southern Tier East Regional Planning Board, and the City of Norwich, BOA Committee.

Carpenter will also assume the roles of Executive Director for the Chenango County Area Corporation, the Industrial Development Agency, the Greater Norwich LDC and the Chenango Foundation. Carpenter was selected by the Search Committee because of her business development experience as well as her proven leadership skills, self-motivation and determination.

As a life long resident of Chenango County she has a vested interest in the success of the Chamber and the businesses it serves as well as economic development efforts. She brings with her a strong commitment to the communities and businesses of Chenango. Carpenter says, “she is very excited about this opportunity and looks forward to working with the membership.” Maureen, her husband Philmon and two children Philip and Andrew reside in South New Berlin. As we will be searching for a replacement for Maureen in the economic development position, the appointment will be effective during the 2nd quarter of 2007.
