NORWICH – As the thermometer drops the amount of money spent in energy costs is contantly on the rise. There are programs designed to help individuals and families get through the winter season without going cold. The following assistance programs carry different regulations and eligibility requirements, if you are interested in finding out more call Opportunities for Chenango (OFC) at 334-7114.

The Weatherization program through OFC provides energy audits and insulation installation for low to moderate-income residents. Over the 25 years this program has been in existence, over 3,000 clients have participated. In the 2005 annual report it was stated 249 homes would be weatherized and $1,120,500 would be invested in time and materials from local businesses. High energy costs are often related to having limited insulation. Call OFC to find out more.

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is also available through the Department of Social Services (DSS).
