NORWICH – Police served a warrant out of county court and arrested a man suspected of starving several dogs, killing one, at his home in Greene. A bench warrant was issued for Douglas A. Haslett for failing to appear in court on two separate occasions and for also failing to appear for his court-ordered evaluations. Haslett was arrested early this morning at around 2 a.m. and is being held in county jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.

The Sheriff’s Department previously arrested Haslett on Sept. 11 for 10 counts of failure to license a dog, nine counts of cruelty to animals and one count of aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony. One of the dogs was found in the defendant’s freezer, apparently placed there after it had been starved to death, said the District Attorney’s office.
