Greene advances in overtime

Boys’ Soccer

Greene 3, Windsor 2 (OT)

GREENE – Rick Tallman was thankful for the absence of a deja vu experience.

Mike Porter lifted Greene (15-3-1) into the second round of the Section IV playoffs scoring four minutes into the second overtime. Porter scored the game’s initial goal and has 23 tallies on the season. “Last year Windsor beat us in a shootout and I was hoping it wouldn’t happen again,” Tallman said. If the second overtime had played out to a tie, the game would have gone to penalty shots. “I was glad it didn’t happen and Mike came through for us. When the game is on the line, we can usually count on him.”

A Porter goal followed by Ryan Utter’s unassisted tally in the first 18 minutes of the second half gave Greene a commanding two-goal edge.

Windsor, who won just four games in the regular season, showed its mettle tying the game after Tyler Faulkner and Kyle Krause goals.

“Windsor played a pretty solid game and we weren’t at our best,” Tallman said. “We made a lot of mistakes and weren’t as aggressive to the ball as I would have liked.”

Greene plays at second-seeded Dryden Friday afternoon.
