Runyon building a strong hockey resume

Among athletes at Norwich High School, junior Ricky Runyon and his burgeoning hockey career may be one of the school’s best-kept secrets.

Beyond the confines of Chenango County – and New York State, at times – Ricky is building an impressive resume that could lead him to a big-time hockey scholarship following his 2014 graduation.

This past season, Ricky was part of the Syracuse Stampede, a high-level Junior A hockey club that participates in the Northern States Junior Hockey League. The Stampede won their league playoffs last month, and less than three weeks ago, finished third in the AAU Ice Hockey National Championships in Las Vegas.

Runyon, the second youngest player on the 25-man roster when the season started, went from rookie prospect to key contributor during the four-month season, and he was the Stampede’s second-leading scorer in the postseason.
