NHS boys finding shooting touch

Norwich 67, Maine-Endwell 64

ENDWELL – Norwich avoided a three-game losing streak shaking off a poor second quarter and overcoming a seven-point halftime deficit Saturday afternoon.

Josh Borfitz came off the bench to score a varsity-high 17 points. Vaughn Labor added 10, and Patrick Coates scored all eight of his points in the third quarter. “It was by far our best shooting game,” said Norwich coach Mark Abbott. “It was a good win after playing hard the previous two games, but we were kind of useless on the offensive end in those games.”

A key switch on the defensive end changed the Tornado’s fortunes as well. Abbott moved from a man-to-man to a morphing zone that had the appearance of a man-to-man defense. “We had good pressure on the ball, switched on everything, and it took them out of their offensive rhythm,” Abbott said. “They had trouble figuring out if it was man-to-man or zone.”

Norwich (2-2) is at Johnson City Tuesday.

Otselic Valley 69, Brookfield 55

BROOKFIELD – Otselic Valley ended a three-year winless streak and seven straight defeats to Brookfield with a victory on the road Friday.

David Cerasani and Taylor Duell each had 20-point games for the unbeaten Vikings (5-0), and Robert Guyer added 12 points, 10 rebounds, and six steals. “It was not an easy win, and we were kind of ragged and sloppy at times,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “We had the lead most of the way, but it was never comfortable. Our execution wasn’t the greatest, but any win is a good win against Brookfield.”
