Norwich 54, Whitney Point 37
WHITNEY POINT – Norwich’s offense met the standard set by its stifling defense with a productive third quarter that swelled a tenous four-point halftime lead to a comfortable 20-point margin after three periods.
Robert Martin hit a trio of three balls and scored 11 points in the third, and Nate Foote also pumped in a trifecta in a 20-4 stretch that made it a 42-22 game.
“The biggest difference is we made some shots in the third quarter,” said Norwich coach Mark Abbott. “Once we started hitting some jumpers, that opened up the paint and we were able to get into our press. We got some turnovers and easy baskets as well.”
Amos Parry carried the offensive load for Norwich in the first half scoring 10 points as the Tornado (7-3) led 22-18.
“Tonight we played really well defensively, and it was as good a defense as we have played in a long time from the standpoint of the shots they had to take,” Abbott said. “Whitney Point has some big, strong kids, and we battled hard.”
