SHERBURNE – Coming off two straight wins, the Sherburne-Earlville softball team hosted Herkimer on Monday afternoon. S-E gave it their best efforts, but fell 8-4 after holding a 4-3 lead.

Herkimer got on the board first with their lead-off batter reaching on a three-base error and came in to score on a passed ball. S-E’s Haleigh Fisher, coming off a historic game, stood her ground and struck out two batters to end the inning and then struck out the side in the second inning.

Fisher led off the bottom of the second inning with a triple and came in to score the tying run on Savanna Born’s ground-out RBI. Fisher struck out two more batters in the third to keep Herkimer quiet and the offense went back to work. Tatum Costantini drew a lead-off walk and stole second and went to third on Reagan Krueger’s one-out single to put runners on the corners. Costantini stole home on the next play.

Herkimer scored two in the fourth inning to go ahead 3-2 on a passed ball and a ground-out RBI. S-E fought back and scored the tying run and go-ahead run in the bottom half of the inning. Born picked up her second RBI, stole second, and went to third on a passed ball before scoring on another passed ball.
