Oxford Softball Opens Season With A Big Win Over Harpursville

HARPURSVILLE – The Oxford Blackhawks softball team traveled to Harpursville for the 2024 season opener. The Blackhawks came away with a big 20 - 6 victory to start the season.

Oxford got started early on with producing nine runs in the top of the first inning and settled in with scoring at least one run throughout the remainder of the seven inning game.

Emmalee Reiss led the Blackhawks with four RBIs and collected three hits. Lily Marshman was strong on the mound and at the plate, firing away with five hits, including two doubles. Peyton Cummings, along with Aubrey Rickard, added three hits each as Cummings drove in three runs. Abigail Stone also contributed with two hits and three RBIs on the day. Oxford scored 20 runs on 20 hits for a great start to the season.

Marshman pitched six and a third innings, allowing five runs, four unearned on five hits, walked six batters, and struck out an impressive 12 batters in the win. Eighth grader Cora Hodge finished off the game, where she allowed one run and walked three, but her defense backed her up.

Oxford (1-0) has some time before taking on its next opponent as they will host Bainbridge-Guilford on April 9 at 4:30 p.m.
