Winter Track: S-E Competes In Section III CSC Championship

SYRACUSE – The Sherburne-Earlville indoor track team competed at the Section III Center State Conference league Championship over the weekend, held at Onondaga Community College. S-E had a strong day on the track with the boys taking second with 67 points behind a tough Clinton team (250). The S-E girls finished in fifth place in the CSC division 1.

Boys:

Aidan Camenga, Liam Acly, and Braden Lewis paved the way for the S-E boys. Camenga achieved two new personal bests in both the 55 meter hurdles and in the long jump. The senior completed the 55 meter hurdles in a new best 9.08 seconds for first place. He jumped a new best of 19 feet, eight inches in the long jump for second place. He also finished second in the triple jump (38-5.75). Teammate Michael Fetzko finished third in both the long and triple jump events.

Sophomore Liam Acly earned new personal bests in both the weight throw and the shot put events. He threw a best 27 feet, eight and 3/4 inches for third place in the weight throw with teammate Lewis ahead in second place. Lewis threw his own best 31-10.50. Acly also finished seventh in the shot put with a new best of 22-6.25. Lewis took fifth in the shot put, where he set a new personal best throw of 28 feet, eight inches.

Lewis, James O’Connor, and Ryan Solloway all ran the 600 meters event together. Solloway led the pack with a fourth place finish, finishing the event in 1:38.76 with Lewis behind him in fifth with a new best time of 1:40.26. O’Connor came in sixth place with a time of 1:43.40.

O’Connor, Solloway, and Fetzko also ran the 55 meter dash. Solloway took sixth with a new best time of 7.42 seconds with Fetzko is eighth (7.58 seconds) and O’Connor in ninth (7.85 seconds). Solloway wrapped up his day in the 300 meter dash, where he finished fifth with a time of 40.66 seconds. Senior Sean O’Connor ran the 3200 meters, where he completed the event in 11:56.58.

Girls:

Freshman Avery Solloway strived for the S-E girls team with the team’s only first place finish on the day. Solloway earned the top spot in the high jump event with a jump of four feet, two inches. She also finished third in the 55 meter dash (8.25 seconds) with teammate Savanna Hook in sixth (8.96 seconds), Madalyn Jones in seventh place (8.88), and Savanna Born in ninth (9.31 seconds).

Solloway also took fourth in the shot put event with a throw of 23-0.75. Born threw 19-8.25, which was good for 11th place. Born competed in the weight throw event as well with a throw of 18 feet, 10 inches for ninth place.

Savanna Hook took sixth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 12.18 before running the 600 meter event in 2:07.77 for eighth place. Teammate Marlie Thompson finished ninth in the 600 meters with a time of 2:15.58. Thompson also accomplished two personal bests in her fielding events. She set a new best jump of 27 feet, nine and 3/4 inches for third in the triple jump while finishing fifth in the long jump. Her best in the long jump was 11-10.50.

Madalyn Jones also achieved a new personal best in the long jump with her best 11 feet, 11 inches for fourth place. The junior also ran the 300 meter dash in 58.40 seconds for eighth place.

S-E returns to OCC this Wednesday, February 7 for Sectionals, starting at 4:30 p.m.
