Oxford Legion To Host Barbecue And Concert Scholarship Fundraiser Saturday
Published: June 10th, 2016

OXFORD – The Fort Hill American Legion Post 376 is hosting a fundraising Pork BBQ at the Post home on June 11, from noon to 6 p.m. The Legion’s primary goal is to raise funds for graduating seniors’ scholarships. Door prizes, a raffle, and especially great food, drink, and excellent live music may make some people forget that they’re benefiting the community as they’ll be having so much fun.

The main purpose for the BBQ-Concert is to raise funds for the Legionnaire’s and Auxiliary’s high school seniors’ scholarships. Collectively, Post 376 awards approximately $1000 annually to help offset the rising cost of college tuition for children or grandchildren of American Legion members (veteran or deceased veteran members). To meet their goal, the Legionnaires, the Auxiliary, and Sons of the Legion (SAL) are proud to offer this delicious pork BBQ meal that includes draft beer and wine, and great live music by area blues/rock band, String of Pearls.

String of Pearls (aka SOP) hail from Greene, NY. Band members are Pearl “Singing Skywolf” Reed-Klein - vocals, piano, guitar, and harmonica; Eric G. Porter – guitar and vocals; Jimmy Kolet - bass guitar and vocals; and Ed Michaels - drums, harmonica, and vocals. Drummer Nick Andrews will be playing this event with them. This is clearly no ordinary “local” band; SOP is a dynamic blues/rock band packed with experience and passion.
