WAVERLY – The Norwich Purple Tornado boys varsity track team ventured down to the Pennsylvania border to utterly dominate in some areas, in the Section IV class B Championships.
The Class B Championships were held at Waverly high school last Thursday, May 26., and saw a total of seven teams compete in 18 different events throughout the course of the day.
The Norwich boys would claim a third place finish out of the total seven teams, when they claimed a 104-team points. Johnson City would claim the team crown with 124.5-points.
Despite many outstanding performances by all the athletes and many personal bests on the Norwich side, it was Zack Race who would stand above the rest. Race would break the 200 meter dash school record for Norwich with his new record time of 22.36 seconds FAT time.
Race would break, Norwich's Matt Murray's record of 22.50 time that Murray set in 2012.
Finishing behind race in the 200 meter dash, who also was the event winner, was freshman Eric Conant and eighth grader David Berger. Conant would Eric Conant would run a 24.23 for an eighth place finish, while Berger would run a 24.78 for a tenth place spot.
• Steeplechase saw Norwich's Ben Ericksen surprise some when he took to the event and posted a second place finish behind the eventual winner from Maine Endwell. Ericksen would run a second place time of 10:15.42 to the winning time of 10:05.39. Norwich's Chris Brown would also pull out a seventh place finish with his time of 11:34.09.
• 110 hurdles would see Connor Nial of Norwich sneak one point for Norwich when he finished sixth in the event with a time of Connor Nial 18.31. The winning time of 15.29 would go to Michael Palmer of Maine Endwell.
