Blackhawk wrestlers take third at Section IV Class D tournament

HANCOCK - The Oxford varsity wrestling team took third place on Saturday afternoon at the Section IV, Class D tournament with 127.5 points behind Deposit-Hancock (232.0) and Tioga (200.0) respectively.



Garrett Sylstra pinned Hunter Talbot of Moravia at the 182-pound weight class to win the Blackhawks’ only first place finish of the tournament. Cole Rice and Dakota Friedel also made the finals for Oxford at 106-pound and 195-pound weight class respectively, and both would take second place. Rice would fall to Tioga’s Austin Lamb by decision, 9-3, and Friedel was pinned by Candor’s Devin Hills at the 3:43 mark. Altogether, Oxford would see nine of their wrestlers place in the top six.
