NFD honors members at annual awards dinner

NORWICH – The City of Norwich Fire Department held its annual awards dinner recently at the Canasawacta Country Club.

Following dinner and a magic show, a presentation was made by Fire Chief Tracy Chawgo naming the 2014 firefighter of the year. This year’s award was presented to firefighter Zach Miner for his heroic rescue from a garage fire in December of 2014.

Life Time Achievement awards were presented to Joe Reagan, Uwe Kuhn and Slim Hickok.

A special recognition in memory of longtime department member Howard Franklin was presented to his family, including NFD Captain Greg Franklin honoring Howard’s memory with the dedication of Norwich’s Aerial Truck 237.

The evening was attended by members of the City of Norwich Fire Department along with their guests, Chenango County Bureau of Fire Car 2, City of Norwich Mayor Joseph Maiurano, and surrounding department chiefs.
