New Berlin Fire Department invites community to turkey dinner

NEW BERLIN – If you like a “delicious completely homemade” turkey dinner and “supporting your community,” then New Berlin Fire Department President and Rehab Captain Larissa Hanslmaier says to come eat at the firehouse this Sat., Nov. 8. “It is a free will offering, meaning we accept any donations people feel they can pay,” said Hanslmaier.

The Annual New Berlin Fire Department Harvest Dinner will be held this weekend at the firehouse at 2 School St. in New Berlin. The department accepts orders and delivers food for lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thanksgiving dinner will be served from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Takeout is also offered for lunch and dinner.

Each year the fire department volunteer staff makes 25 to 30 turkeys and 100 pumpkin and apple pies. The fixings include mashed potatoes, stuffing, squash, green beans, scalloped corn, and cranberry sauce.

“The Harvest Dinner has been going on since I was a kid, for more than 30 years. It used to be held in the Chase Community Center. It got so popular we outgrew it and moved to the firehouse,” said Hanslmaier.
