Oxford Farmers’ Market To Present Tips On Food Preservation
Published: July 8th, 2014

OXFORD – On Saturday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to noon, Rebecca Hargrave will lead an open, walk-in session on food preservation at the Oxford Farmers’ Market, in the bandstand of Lafayette Park, Route 12, Village of Oxford. Free and open to the public.

Home canning and freezing are great ways to save and enjoy your hard-earned crop through the winter, to have healthy food at the ready, and to be self-reliant. But the time-honored tradition of home preservation has many old wives’ tales associated with it. Are you doing the right thing? Take this opportunity to see modern equipment, tools, and resources; ask questions on preserving; and taste a few things, too. Also, bring along your pressure canner gauge to have it tested on site.

Hargrave is a master food preserver volunteer for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County. And, for many years running, Hargrave has been a blue-ribbon winner for her canned goods at the Chenango County Fair.

The Oxford Farmers’ Market takes place every Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.
