Multiple Agencies Respond To Fire In Greene

GREENE – According to authorities, calls began coming in at 10:30 p.m., Tuesday night for a reported fire in Greene.

The fire was later confirmed to be in an approximately 40' x 80' structure on Slater Road, which was referred to by Chenango County Emergency Management Coordinator A. Jones, as the old Browning manufacturing building.

According to Jones, the Greene, Smithville, Brisben, Coventry, Chenango Forks and Chenango Bridge fire departments all responded to provide mutual aid.

According to the Chenango County Fire Alerts, those first on the scene confirmed it was a working structure fire. At 11 p.m. the Chenango County Fire Alerts Facebook page stated, “Greene and all mutual aid crews are working, requesting NYSEG and PD to the scene.”

At 11:07 p.m. it was reported that County Fire investigators had been requested to come to the scene.

At the time of this report Fire Chief Rick Woerter was not available for comment with futher details of the fire.
