Bainbridge-Guildford Edges Harpursville, 10-9
Published: April 3rd, 2014

It was smooth sailing for Bainbridge-Guilford on the arm of Mark Cordener, into the sixth inning. “Cordener just got tired. He was leaving everything up, he was walking some kids. He walked the first two batters in the sixth inning,” said B-G head coach Tim Mattingly. Cordener pitched a solid game and earned the win regardless as Bainbridge-Guildford opened the 2014 with a home field, one run win.

Lucas Butcher had 4 RBI and the Bobcats had a solid fourth inning offensively. “With our fourth inning, it all started with one out. Our lead off hitter (Kyle Hanvey) walked, Bailey Green singled to put runners on first and second and then Lucas Butcher doubled both runs in,” said Mattingly. Later in the inning an error by Harpursville’s second baseman scored a run and Andrews walked in a B-G baserunner, making the fourth a five run inning.

Mattingly was happy to get outside and get the opening day under his belt. “(The field) was okay, it wasn’t too bad. It was little bit rough, the ball was taking some bad bounces left and right,” said Mattingly. “It was playable. I’m just glad we got outside to get a game in. This is the first time we’ve been outside and thrown off a real mound... because our field has not be playable,” said Mattingly.
