NEW BERLIN – Sidney extended play at the end of regulation and in the first overtime with big plays, and wore down Unadilla Valley in the final extra period in Tuesday’s MAC clash.

Sidney’s Billy Kozak had a game-high 28 points, and he hit two free throws with 1.3 seconds left in the fourth quarter to knot the game at 54-54. The Warriors threw a length-of-the-court pass to its end of the floor, the ball was deflected to Kozak, who was fouled on a three-point shot attempt.

UV led by three points in the first overtime, but Nick Meno banked in a three-pointer for Sidney to again tie the game.

“We dug ourselves a hole in the first half, and fought hard to get back in the game,” said UV coach Matt Osborne.

Sidney built a 35-21 halftime lead after outscoring UV 20-5 in the second quarter. David Dufresne had 16 of his 22 points for the Storm after halftime, and Nate Shackleton also had 22 points in the loss.

The Storm were hurt by poor foul shooting missing all six attempts in the two overtime periods, and shot just 9-for-27 for the game. Sidney also held a signficant rebounding advantage.

“Fatigue may have been a factor with our foul shooting and our (inability to) box out,” Osborne said. “We gave them a lot of second shots in the second half.”

UV (6-3) plays at Hancock Friday.
