Oxford man arrested following alleged shooting

OXFORD – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office investigated a shooting that occurred Sept. 21 at Lyon Brook Road in the Town of Oxford.

According to authorities, an individual was shot at as bullets struck the passenger side of the vehicle he was operating. The alleged victim was then involved in a motor vehicle accident as he attempted to flee the area. Detectives and road patrol members executed a search warrant at the Oxford location where they then located the suspect, Martin P. Provo, in a wooded area. The shotgun used in the incident along with shell casings were recovered by law enforcement and approximately 1.75 ounces of powder cocaine, several pounds of marijuana, a scale and $3,800 in cash. Authorities also seized several other guns during the investigation.

Provo, 50, of Oxford, was charged with first degree reckless endangerment, third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and second degree criminal possession of marijuana. Additional charges are expected.

Provo was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.

The condition and the name of the alleged victim was not released by authorities.
