Relays key Norwich’s win over JC

Norwich 100, Johnson City 83

NORWICH – Norwich’s dominance in the three relays supplied the margin of victory in the Tornado’s third meet win in four outings, Friday at Echentile Natatorium.

Norwich finished first and third in the 200 medley, 200 free, and 400 free relays, an 18-point swing on the score sheets. “We really needed those relay points because (at the end of the meet), Johnson City outscored us in the backstroke and breaststroke,” said Norwich coach Kevin Diefenbacher.

Norwich’s medley relay of Taylor Zieno, Danika Tworkowsky, Marybeth Ward, and Erin Gawronski posted a 2:07.58 winning time to open the meet. Diefenbacher said it was a three-second time drop over the previous-best time this season. “We’ve been trying to find the right combinations on relays, and we’re starting to see some time drops,” the NHS coach said.
