Marauders rally in fourth quarter to defeat UV

Sherburne-Earlville 62, Unadilla Valley 60

NEW BERLIN – Sherburne-Earlville made up an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit Wednesday night to reach the finals of the Unadilla Valley Holiday Tournament.

Paul Romanenko had a season-high 16 points, and his three-pointer with two minutes to play gave the Marauders their first lead of the game, 57-55. S-E hit eight free throws in the last quarter to extend margin with Randy Briggs making 5 of 7 charity tosses in the last quarter.

UV had 20 points from Justin Hofer, and the Storm looked poised for a championship game appearance taking a nine-point lead after one quarter, and holding that margin until the final stanza. “Defensively, we played pretty well in the first half,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “They started to get the ball inside, and that’s where they had a definite advantage.”
