Johnson City 56, Oxford 39

ONEONTA – Johnson City’s Cody Arvanitakis was red-hot from the outside, and six-foot-five center Ryan Clark was tough on the inside in leading Johnson City past Oxford in the first round of the Drago Tournament at Oneonta Tuesday.

Arvanitakis banged in two three-pointers in first and third periods on his way to a 14-point night, and Clark, dutifully hammering the inside, matched Arvantakis’ point total.

The Wildcats, STAC Central Division champions a year ago, overwhelmed the Blackhawks early grabbing an 18-8 lead after one period. “We came out kind of timid and didn’t make some shots,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis. “Their athleticism got them some easy looks on runouts and fast breaks, and we got ourselves in a little hole.”
