Four Norwich Runners Earn All-star Honors

OWEGO – At Pheasant Hill Saturday, four Norwich seniors earned All Central/East honors for their performances at the Southern Tier Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships.

John Mooney, Jamie Zieno, and Nate Ashton all gained nods, while Sarah Spittler headed up the Tornado girls. Mooney was 23rd overall timing 17:19; Zieno and Ashton went 41st and 42nd respectively clocking 18:08 and 18:09.

Spittler, meanwhile, finished the five-kilometer layout in 21:42 to place 34th.

Varsity Boys: John Mooney (23), 17:19; Jamie Zieno (41), 18:08; Nate Ashton (42), 18:09; Matt Murray (88), 19:21; Nuri Harper (90), 19:26. Non scoring NHS runners: Josh Haines, 20:33; Peter Braswell, 20:55.

Varsity girls: Sarah Spittler (34), 21:42; Faith Pike (62), 22:46; Sydney Chaffee (71), 23:07; Martha Clemens (83), 23:44; Abby Snow (88), 24:02. Non-scoring girl: Corinne Shea, 26:24.

S-E runs Adirondack Invitational

ADIRONDACK – Sherburne-Earlville’s team continued to improve times as it gears up for this coming weekend’s Section III championships.

Haley Muth ran a season-best 25:06 to lead the Marauders’ girls placing 98th out of 166 runners.

On the boys’ side, Ian Benedict finished in 19:58, good for 75th out of 138 runners. “The kids have improved times anywhere from 30 seconds to five minutes,” said S-E coach Anne Geary. “I’m extremely happy going into next week’s sectional race.”

Jamesville Beach hosts the Section III championships on Saturday.
