Oxford 2, Unadilla Valley 2
NEW BERLIN – Oxford’s Ryan Moore took a pass from Jacob McConnell, and buried the tying goal with 3:19 left in regulation to force a tie with Unadilla Valley Wednesday.
Brett Smith had one goal and one assist for the Storm, and he scored 4:06 into the game. Less than 14 minutes later, the Blackhawks’ Chris Marks connected on a direct kick before UV’s Connor Pope put his team on top with 15:39 left in the opening half.
“I felt we controlled the majority of the game,” said UV coach Ryan Houck. “Their goalie (Branden McConnell) made a handful of fantastic diving saves, and he excelled at stopping our breakaways.”
McConnell made 13 saves for the Blackhawks. “Curious how a tie feels like a victory after all of the close games we’ve played,” said Oxford coach Jim Champlin. “I thought Smith was the difference in the game. Without question, he is an outstanding player.”
