NORWICH – When Jennifer Post talks about the highlights of her summer, she’s not talking about vacation. She’s reflecting on the success of her fourth and final year as principal of Norwich’s Summer School Program.
“The program has grown in leaps and bounds,” said Superintendent Gerard O’Sullivan, as Post launched into a recap of the program during the Norwich City School District’s board of education meeting Wednesday night.
According to Post, 116 kindergarten through fifth grade students attended the five-week program held at Gibson throughout the month of July and into the beginning of August. This was an increase over the 94 students who attended last year, but the number is even more impressive considering last summer’s session included sixth grade students as well. Those sixth graders are now served through a separate program offered at the Norwich Middle School.
