Top seeds hold spots at MAC Championships

BAINBRIDGE – As expected, the top seeds held onto their spots at the Midstate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton Thursday afternoon.

Oxford sophomores Emily and Katie Woodford ran through the competition with little difficult. Katie was an easy winner in the 100-meter dash (12.9) and 400-meter dash (59.1), while Emily was pushed by Sidney’s Ashley Mahlmeister before winning the 200-meter dash in an unofficial 25.81 seconds.

The Blackhawks’ 400- and 1600-meter relays added first-place finishes in school-record times as well, said head coach Irene DeJager. The Woodfords combined with Amanda Marks and Amanda Brown to win the 400 in 50.4; and the Woodfords teamed with Daisy Murphy and Marks to win the 1,600 in 4;15.4.

Among the other local competitors to pick up wins were Dustin Ross, B-GA (200-, 400-meter dash), Chad Noelle, Greene (1,600, 3,200 meters), and Anna Crumb, Greene (800, 1,500 meters, 4:57.9), Mark Day (Greene, 400-meteer hurdles), and Fred Hutchinson (Unadilla Valley, triple jump), Melissa Reigles (B-GA, shot put).
