City Changing Outdated Ordinances

NORWICH – According to the general code for the City of Norwich, you’re not allowed to take a child under the age of 16 to the movies, drugstores cannot sell condoms to those under 18 and commercial properties cannot allow minors to operate amusement-type games.

Those are just some of the outdated city ordinances that may be amended as the city works to update those currently on the books.

At Tuesday night’s meeting of the City of Norwich Common Council, motions were passed to amend three city ordinances and set public hearings for further discussion of the issues. While not all of the ordinances were as outdated as others, those addressed Tuesday were the garbage ordinance, the abandoned vehicle ordinance, and the amusement game ordinance, which was originally adopted in the 1930s.
