Girls’ Basketball

Greene 77, Deposit 9

GREENE – Greene set a new team record in the shot-clock era for fewest points allowed in a rout of Deposit Monday night.

Deposit did not convert a field goal over the middle two quarters making just a single free throw in the third quarter.

Greene pulled away from an 11-4 first-quarter lead outscoring the visitors 29-0 in the second eight minutes. Eight different Trojans scored in shooting a combined 14-for-16 from the field. “It was nice that everybody on our team had a chance to contribute tonight,” said Greene coach Dave Gorton, whose club improved to 15-0 this season.

Barb Borst led with 16 points, Megan McDermott was next with 14, and Abby Wentlent tacked on a season-high 12 points. Anna Crumb dished out a team-high five assists.

Greene visits Unadilla Valley Wednesday.

Sidney 70, Unadilla Valley 40

SIDNEY – Sidney recognized its senior players Monday night, but it was junior Dani Gravel who rode the wave of emotion early on.

Gravel, coming off a 27-point night last weekend against Greene, had 22 of her game-high 26 points in the first half to lead her team to a 35-21 advantage.

UV switched a box-and-one on Gravel in the second half, and although Gravel’s scoring pace tapered off, Sidney’s collective scoring did not. “That was the most amazing shooting I’ve seen,” said UV coach Brandi Backus. “We had to come out of our box-and-one (on Gravel) because everybody else on their team was scoring.”

Hannah Johnson had 13 points and Melissa Friedel chipped in with 12 for UV.
