Bobcats hold off Warriors, 46-42

B-G 46, Walton 42

BAINBRIDGE – Bainbridge-Guilford warded off Walton’s fourth-quarter comeback effort putting the game away in the final 10 seconds.

Holly Reynolds’ third three ball of the game drew Walton to within 43-42. B-G freshman Randi Conway was then sent to the foul line in a one-and-one situation with 10.4 seconds left. Conway nailed the first free throw, but after missing the second, teammate Kim Brown put back an offensive rebound for the final margin.

“At that point, I had to take a chance and leave a rebounder on the foul line,” said B-G coach Bob Conway. “If we were already leading by four points, I would have pulled all of my kids back on defense.”

B-G built a nine-point lead on the strength of Dani Conway’s 23 points. Conway scored all 14 of her team’s points in the second quarter, while the Warriors kept pace hitting three three-pointers in the stanza. Conway added nine rebounds and five assists, while Chelsea Rosa pocketed four steals. “Walton is very good defensively and really works hard,” Conway said. “We have some young kids in our lineup, and some nights they’ll play well, and other nights there’ll be some growing pains.”
