OV reaches Section III title game

Baseball

Otselic Valley 6, Copenhagen 2

SOUTH OTSELIC – Otselic Valley won its third playoff game in six days, and advanced to the Section III, Class D finals beating the foul weather and Copenhagen Saturday afternoon.

Brian Graham pitched a complete-game three-hitter striking out eight and walking none. Chris Olin went 3-for-3 including an RBI double that gave the Vikings (17-5) the lead in a four-run third inning.

“Our pitching has been good, and it’s started to come around the last three weeks,” said Vikings coach Dave Loomis. “We’re finding the strike zone more, and that’s helped a lot. We’re also more selective at the plate than we have been in years. We’re making the pitcher pitch, and we’re also playing good defense.”

Brad Wentworth had a team-high three RBI, while Eric Wentworth and Taylor Duell also collected single ribbies.

OV plays Rome Catholic Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Rome for the section title.

DEPOSIT – Deposit played to its number one seed dispatching G-MU Saturday in the Class D playoffs.

Corey Andresen struck out nine for the win, and added a 3-for-4 day at the dish with three RBI.

“They’re definitely a good team,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “The first three innings, we got the first two outs quickly. All six runs came on two-out rallies with no one on base.”
