More details come out in attempted murder case

PITCHER – More details have come to light in an incident involving a Greene man being charged with attempted murder and several other felonies.

Shawn A. Vanderbunt, 44, is accused of attempting to kill a man reportedly involved with his ex-girlfriend by running him over with his truck after an alleged altercation.

At a felony hearing in the Town of Pitcher, the defense said the incident was an accident and that the defendant was a victim of an attack.

“A group of people set upon Mr. Vanderbunt and he was injured having his lip split open after being struck by at least one of the individuals. Then after that, that same group of people came back to engage my client, and in the course of trying to escape this second encounter, someone was accidentally hurt,” said Defense Attorney James H. Fertig.

Police responded to a hit-and-run at about 3:15 a.m., Jan. 5, along Cook Road in the Town of Pitcher and discovered 21-year-old Jamie M. Brown injured. He was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital and was found to have broken pelvis along with several other minor injuries.

New York State Police Investigators released a statement saying Vanderbunt was arrested for intentionally hitting Brown with his 2004 Ranger pick-up truck because he was still angry over a dispute the two men had earlier.
