Bobcats have come a long way in one month

Kazalski Tournament

B-G 50, Unatego 48

BAINBRIDGE – How far as Bainbridge-Guilford come in one month? The Bobcats enter the new year on a five-game winning streak avenging their only loss of the season beating Unatego in the Kazalski Tournament final Friday.

“It was just a great ball game...a lot of fun,” said B-G coach Bob Conway. “As a team, we’re getting better with a lot of things.”

Dani Conway sunk a free throw with 45 seconds remaining for the final margin. Both teams traded possessions and turnovers over the final 30 seconds, and Unatego’s three-point attempt for the lead at the end was off the mark.

Conway had 27 points and 16 rebounds for B-G, and Mariah Schaeffer added 17 points. Perhaps as important as the scoring was the defensive job of Kim Hart on Unatego’s leading scorer Colleen O’Hara. O’Hara was limited to just two free throws on the night. “(Kim Hart) worked her tail off on the defensive end all night, and she did a great job on O’Hara,” Conway said.

B-G (5-1) plays at Windsor Jan. 3.

Greene Tournament

Chenango Valley 41, Greene 35

GREENE – Chenango Valley scored the final six points of the game to capture the tournament championship in a rematch from last year’s final.

Caitlin Roberts broke a 35-35 tie converting a three-point play with under a minute to play, and tournament MVP Stephanie Hoffman sealed the win with a pair of free throws.

The Trojans hurt their cause with three turnovers in the final minute. “We played a good defensive game, we just could not get anything going on offense,” said Greene coach Bill Case. “We’re still growing and learning, and this is a game that could have gone either way.”

Megan McDermott led Greene with 11 points.
