Jive with Djug Django’s Gypsy Swing at 6 On The Square

OXFORD – 6 On The Square is proud to present Central New York’s premier Gypsy Swing band, Djug Django at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. “Gypsy Swing,” also known as gypsy jazz, is an energized music form. With the feisty passion of gypsy music coupled with big band swing and improvisations, they’ll have everyone in the mood to swing jump and jive.

Djug Django got their name from Jean “Django” Reinhardt, one of the most renowned jazz guitarists of all time, and the father of “Gypsy Swing”, dating back to the 1930’s. Uniquely essential elements necessary for his jazzy swing sound were violin and three guitars. Django, who played rhythm guitar along with his brother and a cousin, was the star soloist in his band.
