Afton accident claims life of local resident

AFTON– Yesterday afternoon an elderly couple traveling through the Village of Afton lost control of their vehicle and collided into a nearby tree resulting in a lethal accident.

Marian O. Corey Fountain, 76, Algerine Street, Afton, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Chenango County Medical Examiner, Dr. John Cruz made the decision shortly after a brief medical examination following the accident and declared the cause of death was due to “massive chest trauma,” said police.

The driver was the woman’s husband, George W. Fountain, 82, of Algerine Street, Afton.
