SHERBURE – The Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne will hold an earth-friendly celebration from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The event this weekend will be a combination celebration for May Day, Earth Day and Arbor Day.
“There are so many wonderful things going on,” said Laura Carey, environmental educator at Rogers. The event will begin with traditional maypole dancing at noon, and guests will be welcome to join in.
A wide variety of events for every age group will be available. The Compost Theater will perform at 1 p.m. According to Carey, the group performs comedic skits about recycling, composting and other environmental issues. Barb Collins, from Solstice Whole Foods, will lead a weed walk at 2:30 p.m. and countless other activities, including canoe and kayak tryouts, artist demonstrations, vegetarian cooking demonstrations, kid’s stories, a scavenger hunt and a fly-tying demonstration will be going on through out the day.
Children will be able to learn about the basic needs through a fairy house building activity that will be held at 2 p.m. Participants will use natural items in the woods to build a fairy house with everything a fairy might need. “We did this activity last year, and it was a lot of fun,” said Carey.
