Quilt donated to benefit Oxford Library expansion

OXFORD – The Chenango Piecemakers made a quilt contribution March 14 to assist with funding for the Oxford Memorial Library’s Building Expansion Project. On behalf of the Chenango Piecemakers, Kim Betts, quilt member and Oxford resident, presented Nancy Wilcox, the library director, with a handmade quilt created by the 100-member group, to be raffled off at a later date.

The quilt pattern specially chosen for the library is titled, “Once Upon a Fairy Tale.” It features red and white 100% cotton quilt blocks, with “redwork” embroidered centers of fairy tale book illustrations, such as Cinderella and The Little Mermaid. This heirloom quality quilt is something of a modern marvel. Kim explained that it was machine pieced and has computer aided machine embroidery. It joins the old world craft of quilting with advanced technology.
