Angelino awarded Purple Heart

NORWICH – Norwich City Police Chief Joseph Angelino, a Marine Reservist and three-time Iraq war veteran, has been awarded the Purple Heart medal with gold star in lieu of a second award. Brigadier General David Papak awarded the medals at a ceremony held last Friday at Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 452 aboard the Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh.

Sergeant Major Angelino stood in front of his squadron of Marines as General Papak, 4th Marine Air Wing Commanding General, presented the medal and two certificates on behalf of the President of the United States.

“I’m truly humbled to wear a decoration that is also worn by others who are much, much more badly injured than myself,” Angelino said.
