S-E Tip-Off Tournament

Sherburne-Earlville 61, Rome Free Academy 48

Westhlll 77, Unadilla Valley 45

SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville moved onto the finals of its own tournament beating Rome Free Academy, and it will play Westhill Dec. 16, who defeated Unadilla Valley in Saturday’s preliminary game.

RFA closed a 10-point halftime deficit to four points in the third quarter before Gabe Fowler ignited the S-E offense rattling off nine straight points to move the margin back to 13. All the while, S-E held the RFA offense in check throughout.

“We were a good defensive team last year, and we’re trying to make that our ‘M.O.’ this year as well,” said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard.

Wilson Rose led S-E with 20 points and 10 boards, Fowler scored 19, and Jon Pinney 14. The Marauders host Hamilton Tuesday.

Westhill used its superior court speed and quickness to move a one-point first-quarter lead to 13 at halftime. Jim Ross scored 13 points in the second quarter, and led the winners with 24 points.

“We tried to switch defenses, but it didn’t matter what we played,” said UV coach Matt Osborne. “They hit the open shots, and they also moved the ball around a lot and got good penetration.”

Matt Potter had 14 points for UV and Raffi Perry added 11. UV is at Oxford Tuesday.
