NORWICH – Norwich’s Purple Tornado Field Band took home its first victory of the season Saturday, at the New Hartford Spartan Spectacular.
In small school division three, the lone entry was Westmoreland, earning 70.10. In small school division one, in second place was New Hartford earning 80.90, and in first place earning 82.95 was Norwich. There were also two national band performances. Coming in second was Webster with 81.25, and in first was Oswego with 81.70.
The New Hartford show is a smaller competition than other field shows within the conference. Norwich scored higher than anyone else competing at the show, including the national competitors.
Directors Don Burke and Chris Calhoun agree the performance was the best they have seen all season, and the judges, who have seen the band perform at past shows, were surprised to see how far Norwich’s performance has come.
