NORWICH – Norwich ended a three-year winless streak against Southern Tier Athletic Conference opposition with a shutout win over Whitney Point Thursday.

Norwich dominated with 24 shots on goal, but didn’t break the scoreless tie until Alex Fanelli’s goal 15 minutes into the second half. Fanelli assisted on Sado Borcilo’s goal late in the game. “The kids were extremely excited with this win, and hopefully we can keep the momentum going,” said Norwich coach Hendrik Lowenstein. “We kept their goalie busy, and he did make some good saves.”

Girls’ Soccer

Unadilla Valley 2, Walton 1

NEW BERLIN – Jessica Lorence connected on a shot from just inside the penalty box at 21:27 of the second half to give Unadilla Valley the victory over Walton Thursday.

The Storm quickly responded to the Warriors’ early lead. Less than one minute after Brittany O’Brien put the visitors on top, Sakura Gysin knotted the contest up on a set play with 1:25 left in the first session.

“This was a good bounce-back win after losing the other night at Bainbridge-Guilford,” said UV coach Chris Bieniek. The Storm play at Sidney Saturday.

Jennifer Patten scored the Bobcats’ other goal.
