Greene 5, Oxford 2
OXFORD – Greene had five different players score goals and raced to a 2-0 halftime lead en route to a win over Oxford Thursday in the Blackhawks’ field hockey tournament.
Sara Ostrander and Megan Boeltz set the tone with first-half goals. “We were really aggressive on offense and good around the cage,” said Greene coach Sue Carlin. “We had a lot of second and third chances.”
Stephanie Washburn, freshman Chrissy Conroe, and Hillary Huttleston added goals for Greene, who received big defensive efforts from Mary Rutz, Laci Williams, while senior midfielder Amanda Barton made a strong return to the field after missing last year with an injury.
Oxford’s Jenna Farwell tallied her fifth goal of the season and Vanessa Pierson added a late goal for the Blackhawks (2-1).

Girls’ Soccer
Oxford 2, Sherburne-Earlville 1
OXFORD – Oxford, who managed just a tie a year ago on its ledger, exceeded that statistic in just its second game.
Felicia Tynan and Amanda Brown had precise passes setting up Courtney Flanagan’s winning goal with just 42 seconds remaining in regulation. Just the night before, the Marauders suffered a 2-1 sudden-death defeat to Norwich.
“We had some really good chances to score and so did Sherburne-Earlville,” said Oxford coach Kathleen Cragle. “It was nice to play a team at our level and come out with the victory.”
Meryn Lounsbury scored in the first half for S-E, while Angela Cantanzaro had Oxford’s other tally.
Earlier this week, the Blackhawks dropped a 5-1 decision to Unatego. Brown scored Oxford’s lone goal off a Kelly Whitehill pass.
The Blackhawks play at Charlotte Valley Saturday.
