Guilty pleas heard in county court

NORWICH – A local man pleaded guilty to criminal contempt in the first degree Monday in Chenango County Court for violating an order of protection. Martin L. Manwarren Jr., 28, outlined the details of the event in question while in court.

On Feb. 10, Manwarren said he knowingly violated an order of protection issued on behalf of his girlfriend by going to her Town of Plymouth residence. He went to the residence and attempted to force his way in, causing the front door to strike the victim. The defendant said his actions were motivated by a desire to see his daughter.

County Court Judge W. Howard Sullivan sentenced Manwarren to 5 years probation, under the condition that he continue participating in the Cortland County Drug Treatment Court program, and maintain distance from the victim in compliance with the order of protection. The judge told Manwarren this was a chance for him to turn his life around.
