OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks PONY League team was in action on Monday night, hosting Whitney Point. While other games across the area were postponed due to rain and rough field conditions, Oxford’s field was playable. The Blackhawks won 5-2 to pick up their fourth PONY League win and sit behind an undefeated Norwich ‘A ’ team.

Oxford got on the board in the second inning on a run off a wild pitch and a run off a defensive error. Whitney Point got within one run on a groundout RBI before the Blackhawks answered with more runs in the third.

Landen Olinski led off the bottom of the third inning with Oxford’s first hit of the night, stole second, and scored on Kyle Benjamin’s RBI single. Benjamin came in to score after stealing second and reached home off an error. Benjamin led the team with two stolen bases as Oxford went wild with a total of 11 stolen bases.

Benjamin went back on the mound in the top of the fourth inning, where he held Whitney Point from scoring with a quick three out inning. The Blackhawks’ offense continued to succeed as Caden Rifanburg hit a deep ball to center field with two outs for an RBI double. He finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

Degan Endress took the mound in relief in the fifth inning, where the Eagles punched in their second run on an RBI single. Endress shut them down completely in the sixth inning as he struck out the side. He also got out of a jam in the top of the seventh with runners in scoring position. He got out of trouble with a strikeout and a game-ending groundout.

Benjamin and Endress (seven) combined with 13 strikeouts on the mound in the win.
