CHENANGO COUNTY– As of 7:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, a storm release was issued from the City of Norwich/Chenango County Emergency Operations Center which estimated that 6,757 residences and businesses in Chenango County remain without power – which is 30 percent of all NYSEG customers in the county.

The largest areas within the county without power as of print time included Afton (1,322), Greene (1,255), and Oxford (1,163).

“Almost all of the Town and Village of Afton are without power and large portions of the Towns of Greene, Oxford and Preston are also out of power,” said A. Wesley Jones, Chief Dispatcher, Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. “Between the hours of 8 p.m. and midnight, the 911 call stats recorded 333 phone calls, and 95 were Fire/EMS events. A normal day is 25 total Fire/EMS events.”
