Utica Man Arrested For Possession; Officer Injured In Ensuing Scuffle

NORWICH – A 27-year-old Utica man is being held at the Chenango County Correctional Facility awaiting his felony hearing tomorrow after police said he fought and injured the arresting Norwich Police officer while making an arrest Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 4:25 p.m. a Norwich Police officer conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on Miller Street near Auburn Street.

During the course of the traffic stop, the officer encountered a male passenger, and per a release from the Norwich Police Department, was said to be in possession of “several pieces of crack cocaine.”

According to authorities, in the process of making the arrest, the subject fought with the arresting officer and the back-up officer who arrived to assist.
