Beat the heat at local public pools

CHENANGO COUNTY – With temperatures flirting with the mid-eighties over the last weekend and into Monday, county residents were reminded of what sweltering summers in upstate can be like. With that in mind, many area municipal swimming pools have already begun the process of making necessary repairs and routine maintenance work to get these oases up and going for the sizzling days ahead.

There are four public swimming facilities within Chenango County, and below are the tentative seasonal opening dates, hours of operation and locations.

Bainbridge- The William S. Payne Memorial Park located on the corner of Walnut Ave. and Front St. will be the first municipal pool and is slated to open for the 2014 summer season on Saturday June 7. Since 1957, the Payne pool has served Bainbridge area residents as the place to chill when the temperature is unbearable.

The pool received a new liner for 2014, and the water is in and warming for a weekend opening.

The pool will be open from 3 to 8 p.m. weekdays and 1 to 8 p.m. on weekends for the duration of the school year.

Regular summer hours will commence during the summer break at which time the pool will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. daily with youth swim lessons offered during the mornings.
